Rank 1 - Paris Nice Cannes
Live performed | Spotify release
Revealed: 2020 (ASOT #950 Festival Utrecht)
Created: 2020?
18. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??
Lyrics: "Niets niets kan, alles... kan... Niets niets kan, koffie kan!"

Now this track is TYPICAL Piet & Benno humor lyrics wise xD As a non-Dutch speaker it will make no sense but the joke lies in the word "kan" which in Dutch refers to "having the possibility to/can OR which it refers to a pot as in coffee/tea pot. Translated to English the lyrics become absolutely non-sensical whilst being pretty punny in Dutch: "Nothing is possible, everything is possible, nothing is possible, coffeepot" or "Nothing is possible, everything is possible, nothing is possible, coffee is possible".

Production-wise they created a track with a very funky, Techno-driven main part which then goes 100% '98-'00 Classic Trance on your ass with a main melody that has a very strong M.I.K.E. Push ring to it before allowing the lyrics to return on top of that delicious Techno madness. It's a very catchy dancefloor track with a double twist if you understand Dutch and if you've ever heard their ASOT #147 XXL interview with Armin, you will know this humor is right up their street.

Funky, funny and a cool breakdown. What more do you need?? Bonus points for the way they let Beats At's bassline play in the build-up for a bit! :D

Update: On July 31st 2020 it was revealed that this track is called Paris Nice Cannes, giving the humoristic background to this track an extra layer because the pronunciation of Cannes is similar to the Dutch verb "kan". Oh Piet and Benno, is there no end to your punny shenanigans??

Rank 1 - Transatlantic Communication

Live performed | Spotify release
Revealed: 2020 (ASOT #950 Festival Utrecht)
Created: 2020?
17. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

With its very catchy, memorable and happy lead, the intro track of their ASOT #950 live act would be a perfect Rank 1 single! Though not as detailed layerwise as its Dreamstate 2017 counterpart, the groovy bass and powerful riff backed by delicious '99-esque saws managed to hit the sweet spot well. It gets stuck in your head and with a little bit more detail/polish, this could be a real festival hit!

An instant favorite and I am so glad I got to record it, including my enthusiastic response to the drop hehehe ;)

Update: On July 31st 2020 it was revealed that this track is called Transatlantic Communication. Could the Transatlantic part of the title be referring to the globally loved '99-ish saws they used?

Rank 1 - Predictive Memory

Live performed | Spotify release
Revealed: 2017 (Dreamstate SoCal)
Created: 2017?
16. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*Following Awakening, the pen-ultimate track of the performance seemed to have a very deep beat. Echoing percussion marked the build phase, hinting at the likes of 7 Instead Of 8 / L.E.D.. The low quality made it hard to really tell the deep end apart but there was some wicked percussion element that appeared at one point, sounded very tribal! The synth melody in the breakdown sounded very rich and also very Rank 1-like. Melody wise it vaguely reminded me of Armin van Buuren - Precious. The climax moment appeared to have some wicked sounds and the drop was DEEP! You could hear the crowd go pretty wild over it! That wicked tribal percussion returned followed by a reverbed tech synth of sorts. Next up was the reprise starring those delicious Trance 1 synths... 2nd climax unleashed not just the tribal perc, but also the tech synth and some other element I can't properly describe because you can't hear it clear enough.

Without doubt, alongside the intro track, my favorite new tune in this performance. Like Untitled 2017 Track #1 it sounded like they had thought the track through quite a bit. It sounded like it was made to be released in the future. If so, it would be a refreshing tune too with Tech, Tribal and Trance elements all blended into one, in typical Rank 1 fashion. They also performed this one at ASOT #950 in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, in 2020.

Update: On July 31st 2020 it was revealed that this track is called Predictive Memory. I wonder if the Memory part of the title is a hint to the tribal influences present in this track? Trance from the good old days was never afraid to drop some tribal grooves...

Rank 1 - Untitled 2017 Track #3

Live performed | Unreleased
Revealed: 2017 (Dreamstate SoCal)
Created: 2017?
15. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*After Untitled 2012 Track, they played this one. The bassline and overall groove seemed a bit more similar to No Name, until the main lead was introduced. That main lead used those peak "Miller/De Goeij" synths instantly associated with the likes of Jochen Miller - Chromatic / Lost Connection / Eclipse / Face Value / Red One, though Piet & Benno already used a variant of it themselves back in 2005 as far as I can tell: check the main lead in Humanity (Rank 1 Remix).

Overall, like No Name, this one felt a bit more "simplistic", especially compared to Untitled #1. This is another track I don't expect to see turning into a release, not in its current form anyway. It's just a wee bit "too simple" compared to previous releases. Even a straightforward track like Floorlifter had a strong element to fall back on (its ability to lift the dancefloor).

Rank 1 - No Name

Live performed | Spotify release
Revealed: 2017 (Dreamstate SoCal)
Created: 2017?
14. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*About halfway through the performance, following Floorlifter, this one was played. Boasting a pretty funky and defined bassline, I've been wondering if Piet dropped some version of this in the past as it sounded sort of familiar. Then again, this type of bassline was pretty prominent over the course of 2010-2011, during the whole Trouse "revolution". Definitely sounded like a Rank 1's Radio Rush track. The track had a simple melody line and a nice groove to it, said melody was boosted by a somewhat stronger synth a little further one before it climaxed and revealed ONE HELL OF A DROP! The quality of the video might have been low but make no mistake, this was a heavy hitter. They also performed this one at ASOT #950 in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, in 2020.

Bit of a clubby track, but unlike the opener it lacks "Rank 1 sophistication" (though I do hear a L.E.D.-like reverbed clap shortly before the 2nd break) so if you were to ask me if I expect a release out of this one my answer would be no. It did fit with the sound/style they used for the 2014 Airwave & 2016 Superstring reworks though so don't quote me on this.

Update: On July 29th 2020 it was revealed that this track is called No Name. Which is basically Piet and Benno being funny again and calling their originally untitled track untitled, but in a different way whilst directly defying its untitledness by actually giving it a title. Are you mindf*cked yet? :^)

Rank 1 - Untitled 2017 Track #1

Live performed | Unreleased
Revealed: 2017 (Dreamstate SoCal)
Created: 2017?
13. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*This track kicked off their live performance at Dreamstate SoCal. Opening with a gentle piano melody and some harps in the background and some lower range guidance, an electro guitar was added before a powerful snare hit every few measures. Soon Benno started playing a typical Rank 1 riff similar to what they did during the L.E.D.-TGE era. It swelled up and the drop that followed was deliciously Modern Anthem Trance Rank 1 at its finest!

There was a certain level of detail and variation in the elements present as well as the way they were arranged that makes me think this track has the potential to be a future release. Mere speculation on my end, mind you.

Conjure One vs. Rank 1 - ???

Rumor | Unknown
Mentioned: 2012 / Possibly hinted at: 2016
12. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*Mentioned once by Conjure One on October 9th 2012 [https://twitter.com/conjure_one/status/255731073496014848], this collab might actually be a serious thing again after this Benno tweet on November 17th 2016 [https://twitter.com/BennoDeGoeij/status/799339632156610560] and this Retweet by the end of January 2017 [https://twitter.com/rhysfulber/status/825029775798308865].

Rank 1 - Untitled 2012 Track [Live performed]

Unreleased | Unknown
Revealed: 2012 (EDC Las Vegas, Sunrise Festival & Nature One) & 2013 (Back In The House), 2017 (Dreamstate SoCal)
Created: 2012?
11. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*During their live performances at EDC Las Vegas and Nature One over the course of summer 2012, the guys performed an unknown track with a gritty bassline. The melody had a vague Format #1 - Solid Sessions vibe to it. It had a pretty short and simple melody but it was the unrelenting energy and variation between the elements that made it work well imo. You can find it here, it's the track right after Dutch Force - Deadline: [http://soundcloud.com/edmtunestv/rank-1-live-at-electric-daisy-carnival-las-vegas-06-09-2012]. In 2013, at the Dutch Dance Classics event "Back In The House" they performed this track live in its longest form so far. 4 years later they performed it once more at Dreamstate SoCal 2017.

Despite its simple set-up, the fact they performed this one again after 4,5 years, I have a bit of a feeling this one might see the light of day in the future as a dancefloor-oriented single. Much like Floorlifter followed Elements Of Nature, this one could follow after a very Trancey/light release. In fact, it could be the next single even, seeing how the last one was This World Is So Amazing? Time will tell...

Rank 1 feat. Jeza - ???

Rumor | Unknown
Mentioned: 2011
10. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*In this interview [http://pureblissvocals.blogspot.nl/2011/05/interview-with-jeza-jess-bennett.html], Jeza mentioned she'd be working with Rank 1 in the near future. As of May 2022, nothing has been revealed about the state of this collaboration though and sadly the PureBlissVocal site no longer directs to this interview.
===============================
Rank 1 vs. Jochen Miller - The Great Escape (Rank 1 Remix?)

Rumor | Possibly cancelled
Mentioned: 2010
09. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*Briefly mentioned on Twitter [https://twitter.com/bennodegoeij/status/8957522614] back when TGE was still going to be released, only to never be spoken about again... I have given it some thought that perhaps this didn't necessarily apply to Rank 1 doing the remixing and it referred to Stenberg and Mr. Sam's Tech Trance and Techno Remixes respectively but surely that would have lead to different phrasing on Benno's part right? Plus: https://symsonic1.blogspot.com/2010/02/ this tweet preceded the original release by five days which seems kind of odd... Will we ever find out what happened to this?

Rank 1 vs. Lucid - I Can't Help There Be Light (Rank 1 Mash-up)

Unreleased | Unknown
Revealed: 2009
Created: 2009
08. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*The reasons as to why this mash-up was never released are unknown. It was most likely meant to spice up the sets.
===============================
Ton T.B. - Evolve As One (Rank 1 Remix)

Rumor | Possible tracklist error
Mentioned: 2007
07. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*When the Trance Energy 2007 compilation was about to be released, this site http://www.liquid-motion.nl/news.php?item.1940.7 mentioned that it would contain a Rank 1 Remix of Ton TB's 'Evolve As One'. Whether this was merely a mistake or a 'slip of the tongue' is unknown.
===============================
Rank 1 - 2 Drunk 2 Funk

Rumor | Possible album track
Mentioned: 2006
06. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*Was an album track at one stage during 2006, as mentioned here [http://www.dontstayin.com/uk/london/heaven/2006/feb/10/article-1211]. Sadly, no more info about this track is available to this day.
===============================
Rank 1 - Brairwave (Rank 1 Mash-up)

Unreleased | Unknown
Revealed: 2006 (ASOT #250, in the Asta -The Hague)
Created: 2006
05. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*The reasons as to why this mash-up was never released are unknown. It was most likely meant to spice up the sets.
===============================
Rank 1 - Untitled [Hardstyle] Track

Unreleased | Experimental
Revealed: 2004 (ASOT #147, ID&T Radio)
Created: Possibly 1999/2000
04. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*During their ASOT #147 interview the guys explained that this was never released because it was an experimental track. Piet said they had "the harder work" in mind while creating this track. Soundwise it's comparable to Jonah - Sssst... Listen, only harder. I guess this track would be as old as 1999/2000? It has been dubbed "She Wants Me Back" by fans here and there.
===============================
Gouryella - Ligaya (Rank 1 Remix)

Unreleased | Cancelled after being postponed
Revealed: 2002 (Rank 1 set at Go!Park)
Created: 2002
03. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*This Remix was never released since the Ligaya release pack coincided with the making of the Symsonic Album's title track and the guys gave priority to their album. [http://www.ivibes.nu/index.php?article=1294] Piet played it live at Park Go in Germany back in 2002. They also played it as the Retro Record in Radio Rush Episode #007.
===============================
Greencourt feat. Lina Rafn - Silent Heart (Rank 1 Remix)

Rumor | Possible tracklist error
Mentioned: 2002
10. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

This one is only ever mentioned in the tracklist for the Go Park set, Piet dropped it two spots before the Ligaya Remix. I've never seen it mentioned in relation to anything else. However, comparing it to the officially released remixes of Silent Heart, this one sounds distinctly different. That said, compared to all their 2002 productions/remixes, this sounds rather... Simple, faint, empty? Definitely not up to the standard of their 2002 sound. It could of course have been a mere demo that Piet tested. But I don't really hear any element of the original back here. Hmmm...
===============================
Chakra - Home (Rank 1 Remix)

Unreleased | Rejected
Revealed: 2004 (ASOT #147, ID&T Radio)
Created: 2000
02. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*During their ASOT #147 interview the guys explained that this was never released because the label bosses thought the break was too long. Piet & Benno shortened it but didn't like the result so the release was blown off. They played it as the Retro Record in Radio Rush Episode #005.
===============================
Rank 1 vs. Marco V & Benjamin Bates - Untitled Track

Unreleased | Just for fun
Revealed: 2000 (Marcel Woods Marco V at Trance Energy 2000 set)
Created: 2000
01. BPM: ??? | Key: ? ??? | ??:??

*According to Piet [http://www.dontstayin.com/uk/london/heaven/2006/feb/10/article-1211] this was never released because the four guys merely wanted it as an extra in their sets. As he said: "It shouldn't always be about the money". On Youtube this track is usually titled "Surprisingly" or "(The) Awakening". They also performed this track live at Sensation 2001.
