[Last update: November 10th 2023]

Rank 1 have sometimes mistakenly been mentioned as part of certain collaborations. Sometimes this had to do with Piet and/or Benno having been involved in a production and the track potentially being planned as a Rank 1-collab at one stage before minds were changed. Here are the ones that have popped up down the years:

Johan Gielen vs. Rank 1 - Dreamchild
Released: Wednesday March 9th 2005

According to Art^ego on the old Rank-1 website: This one was originally a track that Piet and Benno were working on but they weren't sure how to finish it so they gave it to Johan who then teamed
up with Jim Hermsen (aka Outback) to finish it. You can clearly tell by the supersaw melody that Piet and Benno were involved but the part that really gave me a Rank 1 tech-vibe is that bit from 05:13 to 05:43. The track's loaded nature also bears some vague similarity to JOOP - The World which was released in the same period and which had -surprise!- Benno in the co-producer seat!

The Trance Energy 2005 compilation wrongly listed this as an official collab between Johan and the guys. Though that didn't turn out to be the case, the fact that Rank 1's techy sound of that era got mixed with Jim Hermsen own unique techy tones and Johan's penchant for the euphoric, this sort-of-collab turned into a pretty awesome and powerful Tech Trancer.

Ronald van Gelderen - Realize (Rank 1's Stripped Down Mix)
Released: Monday December 4th 2006

Back in the autumn 2006 days of A State Of Trance, Armin dropped this remix twice on his show, and he kicked it up by 10 BPM or so. Regardless, in the tracklists circulating at the time, it was often mentioned as "Rank 1's Stripped Down Mix". Upon its actual release however, it was named just "Stripped Down Mix". Now Benno was involved in both the original Realize and this remix so the name made sense.

I suppose that either Piet and/or Benno felt this remix might have been slightly TOO techy for their discography (to which I would heavily disagree) or perhaps someone got ahead of themselves with the promo and this was never intended as a Rank 1 remix to begin with? Or maybe Ronald wanted it as his own alternative mix? So many questions... But again, much like Dreamchild, this is a badass Tech production regardless whether it carries Rank 1's name or not. It sure as hell carries Benno de Goeij in the credits, right? ;)

Jochen Miller & Rank 1 - 9 Minutes
Released: Wednesday October 29th 2008

This one is a weeeeee bit more persistent as it was actually released under this name once. But once again it was Benno on co-producing duty and this was not an official Rank 1 collaboration. And yes, it would have been a massive one alongside Dreamchild and the remix for Realize HAD it been given that honor... Once again the assumption here is that someone got ahead of themselves because they had insider info on Benno being involved OR it was yet another "not Rank 1 enough" call being made... Doesn't really matter, does it? A 5/5 star gem, this.

Andrew Rayel & Rank 1 feat. Sylvia Tosun - We Bring The Love

Quite where this mention of Rank 1 came from I have no clue, but the guys had nothing to do with this monstrosity. There is also no known Rank 1 sample to be heard at any point in the track. Given how this peculiar tag only seems to pop up on certain fanuploads on Soundcloud and Youtube, I believe this to be mere wishful thinking by some Rayel fans. You can't blame them really, who WOULDN'T want to be listed alongside the Legendary Duo?

M.I.K.E. Push vs. Rank 1 Mike EFEX - Transtemporal
Released: Monday August 24th 2015

Was mistagged on Beatport (and Spotify as well) as being a collab between Mike and Rank 1. However, as this official Coldharbour Upload shows, it is in fact a collab with another Mike! And if you listen to the track, there is not a single hint of Rank 1 to be heard in this one. Which is not a big deal considering we got Zenith instead two months later so it turned out alright in the end. :)
