May 6th 2022 | Alright!! I've completely updated https://symsonic1.blogspot.com to include embedded Spotify links next to the embedded Youtube videos I had already started implementing! Past week has been brutal in going back over and over and over to make sure posts are the same, etc. Some tracks were still using an old 2016/2017 format! :') But it's done!! I've also added an Index page to explain what that blog is for exactly. Have fun diving into their discography!
May 6th 2022 | It took forever but yesterday it was finally premiered on #ASOT1067! Armin and Ruben spoke through much of the build-up though but it sounded good from what I could hear... Can't wait to have the full unmixed version. ^^

April 23rd 2022 | I remembered I once saw a four-part DJ Feel interview with Piet and Ronski Speed in 2009. I went on a Youtube search and quickly found it again, it's been embedded in the Interview section!

April 21st 2022 | Meh, no premiere of the upcoming Sunrise (Rank 1 Remix) on ASOT tonight. But I've been productive nonetheless: Updated the Trivia section with Rank 1's annual ASOT mix comp appearances and some Service For Dreamers picks. Also embedded the five tracks featured in the Wrongly Tagged! section instead of a direct link. Also added some interviews to the Interview section, embedded the ones on Youtube and translated one from to Dutch to English!

April 17th 2022 | So Aly & Fila And JES - Sunrise (Rank 1 Remix) has not been revealed yet so this is mere speculation on my part:
*The original leans heavily on the Prog-side so it's likely this Rank 1 Remix will be a Trancier or perhaps even Balearic take on that
* The Rank 1 Remix ends the On The Beach CD, much like the original it's based on did a year ago, so it might not stray that far from the original. Then again, seeing that with 12 days to go before its release there is not a snippet to be heard anywhere, Armin and co. seem very intent on keeping this one a secret, probably because they expect it to be a big one... Which means it would surely be a refreshing take on the previous one right?
* Could we get a remix in a similar vein to say Velvetine - Safe (Rank 1 Remix)? That one used a pretty deep, groovy, tech-synth driven build-up before hitting us with an all-out euphoric Trance melody, all the while utilizing Aruna's vocals throughout, both in chopped and complete form...
* Could this be the return of Rank 1's delicious vocal chops from the mid/late '00s?? Like in Lyteo, Humanity, This Way and Safe?? Let's hope so!!

July 29th 2021 | 15 years after their collaboration This World Is Watching Me with Kush, Armin and Rank 1 have released a brand new collaboration called The Greater Light To Rule The Night!! Melody-wise it has a very strong 2002-2004 Armin vibe whilst the pumped up bassline gives off that Rank 1 vs. M.I.K.E. - Elements Of Nature vibe. A very powerful track! Tune into #ASOT1027 to hear its world premiere tonight!!
August 23rd 2020 | Given how The Rank 1 Timeline returns absolutely zero information regarding our fave duo but tons of nonsense about "ranking #1 in Google" I've decided to rename the other blog Symsonic1. If you google Symsonic, the top results are always related to the guys' album, so hopefully in due time the other blog will be among the top searches. :)
August 18th 2020 | Following yesterday's "Youtube Uploads" hunt, I decided to do so some embedding on The Rank 1 Timeline starting with the releases Rank 1 Live At ASOT 950 back to 7 Instead Of 8! So from now on you will actually be able to listen to the tracks on their respective promo pages :D I've also added spaces for streaming links and a "my thoughts" paragraph which I will add at some point: a short review revealing how I've felt about a particular track/remix/compilation/album over the years.
Man, having actual previews of the releases to listen to in these posts sure brings back fond memories of the 2005-2010 days when I used to scroll through the legendary Bervoets & De Goeij page! <3 I discovered so much Rank 1 material I hadn't heard yet through that site... Sure, I've got my work cut out for me now but this is a task I'm looking forward to completing! :D Anyhow, go check it out:
August 17th 2020 | Dear LAWD I've spent this whole afternoon updating the Videoclip and Label Uploads/Previews section with official Youtube-sanctioned upload of various remixes and singles. In the long run this is going to save me a shit-ton of time with me no longer having to replace deleted fan-uploaded stuff! Sadly, not everything seems to be on yet and I still have a few to add but imma take a breather for now.

February 16th 2020 #2 | Decided to give this its own bullet. On Saturday July 25th, Electronic Family will host the event's final edition: Piet will be there too for his fifth time after having appeared on the 2011 (b2b Jochen Miller!), 2015, 2017 and 2018 (b2b Marco V!) editions! Let's all join him there if we can! :)
February 16th 2020 #1 | Christmas came a little late I would say but last night Piet & Benno obliged to Armin's Request to do "something special" for ASOT #950! So they decided to drop a sort of Live Act "MegaMix" hybrid in which they squeezed 11 tunes in 30 minutes, among them BRAND new material!!

They were also interviewed by Ruben de Ronde (who didn't do his homework, the last Rank 1 live performance was at Dreamstate 2017 in the USA and in 2011 there were no live shows!! I think we can all agree that when you can get a full Mainstage Area to go wild 20(!!) years on from when you first went live, you have truly proven your Immortality in any genre!!
December 14th 2019 | Forgive my absence, kids! Yesterday Piet celebrated Christmas at the Ministry Of Sound's The Gallery and not only did he drop a solo set, he even joined forces with Ferry Corsten for a b2b blast of a party! Could this be the springboard for that mystic Ferry Corsten vs. Rank 1 collaboration in 2020? After all, We Finally Met with Marco V followed just about half a year after Piet and Marco destroyed the Electronic Family Festival stage back in the summer of 2018... Let's see what the future brings! :)

I recall that at the time I instantly went on an iTunes hunt to see which singles were topping the charts. I found Justice (which consist of more than one person so it would match with the "they" in their tweet) - Civilization topping quite some charts. Then again, I could find not a single mention on google linking Rank 1 (or Benno) to Justice. On the other hand, later that year he did release the Benno de Goeij Remix for Sinead by Within Temptation (a band, so another possible "they"). I've always wondered... Was that BdG remix originally intended to be a Rank 1 Remix and thus, was that the remix Benno tweeted about here? Or was it for Justice after all? Or was this illusive Rank 1 Remix for a different act altogether? I guess we'll never know but my mind keeps wondering all the same...

Top Gear was never intended to be released but the "Crowd Power" and reactions afterwards changed Piet & Benno's minds... So you never know...

The bad news here is I've been unable to find any information as whether their set will be streamed through the internet or broadcast by local radio stations... A quick "Dreamstate" search on Mixcloud did reveal quite a few sets from last year being recorded so at this point we stay-at-home folks can only cross our fingers and wish Piet, Benno and the attending crowd one hell of a magically Rank 1 LIVE hour!!

I recall that at the time I instantly went on an iTunes hunt to see which singles were topping the charts. I found Justice (which consist of more than one person so it would match with the "they" in their tweet) - Civilization topping quite some charts. Then again, I could find not a single mention on google linking Rank 1 (or Benno) to Justice. On the other hand, later that year he did release the Benno de Goeij Remix for Sinead by Within Temptation (a band, so another possible "they"). I've always wondered... Was that BdG remix originally intended to be a Rank 1 Remix and thus, was that the remix Benno tweeted about here? Or was it for Justice after all? Or was this illusive Rank 1 Remix for a different act altogether? I guess we'll never know but my mind keeps wondering all the same...

(pun intended) this one by High Contrast Recordings [https://twitter.com/HighContrastRec/status/611533967779430402]. Note how they mention "a Storm" and the coverart captures just that. Remember how the US suffered from the Juno storm earlier this year. And remember how Elements Of Nature got its name? That's right, because of the storms terrorizing the States back in late 2012/early 2013! I don't think we need any more hints than these, really ;) M.I.K.E. Push vs. Rank 1 - Juno premiers tonight!

- In December 2013 Dutch Legends Rank 1 and Belgian Legend M.I.K.E. Push said they'd make a second collaboration some time [twitter.com/rank1official/statu…/416326819974250496] Here are a few reasons why this could very well be said collaboration:
1) There is a reversed percussion element a bit similar to the raw reversed sweep found in Rank 1's Witness collaboration with Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren
2) The pluck melody in the build-up has a familiar vibe to the build-up lead in Elements Of Nature: play EoN and then this ID. Deffo feel a "sibling" air there!
3) Obviously the melody in the breakdown sound like the Classic M.I.K.E.. Picture his World Citizen album from 2013 with this track... It would fit on, wouldn't it?
4) The climaxing snares are similar to the snares in 7 Instead Of 8 and Elements Of Nature, both in the manner they sound and the rhytmic pattern they follow which is not your classic-albeit-cliched tempo raising 1/4 > 2/4 > 4/4 pattern
5) Armin goes on an MCing rampage about what Trance means to him and he does so during pretty much the only non-Bigroom/Trouse/Hardstyle sounding track in that phase of his set: a track which itself has a bit of a classic ring to it, be it in a modern coat (much like Elements Of Nature) => we call this track hyping. It would be fitting for a collaboration of two acts considered as some of the greatest champions of Classic Anthem Trance ever to receive such a special treatment... What do you think?

Could this be the long-awaited follow-up to Elements Of Nature then?? It has a vey strong M.I.K.E.-ish feel to the melody whereas the build-up pluck and the snares have a hint of Rank 1's recent Retro-flavored releases! Contrary to what Lange tweeted [https://twitter.com/djlange/status/603641186411225088], he played the original mix of Jochen Miller - U And Eye on Intercity #224 (listen for yourself here, it kicks in at about 15:58 > https://hearthis.at/globalsets/lange-intercity-224-on-ahfm-27-05-2015/). As far as I know, there is no such thing as a U And Eye (Rank 1 Remix), the same way that 9 Minutes is NOT a Rank 1 vs. Miller collaboration, nor is there a Jochen Miller & Benno de Goeij remix of Armin van Buuren - Mirage. The fact that Benno wrote a lot of track for/with Jochen, doesn't automatically Classify (pun intended!) them as R1/BdG vs. JM.

- I've renamed the "Side-projects" section to "Rank 1's Other Projects". From now on I will be updating this section with as much Piet and/or Benno material as possible. Seeing as the guys have tracks spanning from 1992-2015 at the time of writing, I will be busy for quite some time! Can you imagine Gert Egscholten had a whole site with most of those releases AND soundsamples? o_o Big shame he decided to quit it though. :( It was instrumental in acquainting me with the earliest Rank 1 releases when my brother showed the site to me back in 2005 and it was the starting point of my other-than-Rank1-hunts in 2008. - Olla! It's been a while! Allow me to clear up a mistake I saw yesterday. Contrary to what Lange tweeted [https://twitter.com/djlange/status/603641186411225088], he played the original mix of Jochen Miller - U And Eye on Intercity #224 (listen for yourself here, it kicks in at about 15:58 > https://hearthis.at/globalsets/lange-intercity-224-on-ahfm-27-05-2015/). As far as I know, there is no such thing as a U And Eye (Rank 1 Remix), the same way that 9 Minutes is NOT a Rank 1 vs. Miller collaboration, nor is there a Jochen Miller & Benno de Goeij remix of Armin van Buuren - Mirage. The fact that Benno wrote a lot of track for/with Jochen, doesn't automatically Classify (pun intended!) them as R1/BdG vs. JM.

- I've renamed the "Side-projects" section to "Rank 1's Other Projects". From now on I will be updating this section with as much Piet and/or Benno material as possible. Seeing as the guys have tracks spanning from 1992-2015 at the time of writing, I will be busy for quite some time! Can you imagine Gert Egscholten had a whole site with most of those releases AND soundsamples? o_o Big shame he decided to quit it though. :( It was instrumental in acquainting me with the earliest Rank 1 releases when my brother showed the site to me back in 2005 and it was the starting point of my other-than-Rank1-hunts in 2008. Through Gert I acquired the Rank 1 live acts at Trance Energy 2000 and Sensation 2001 too. If you ever read this Gert, thanks so much for helping another fan out that way!
